Exam registration for MSc students in case of a third attempt

Due to the regulations for BSc students with respect to a third exam attempt, the registration of all students (BSc and MSc) who prepare for a third attempt will be automatically blocked by Osiris. If you, as a MSc student, find your registration for an exam blocked because two or more unsuccessful attempts have been recorded already for the course in question, you can send an e-mail to BOZ-MB (boz-mb@mb.utwente.nl), with a copy (Cc) to your study adviser. Please do this immediately after you realized that you are unable to register for the exam in question, so that BOZ can react on time. Do not forget to mention your student number, and the course name plus course code.

Exam registration for BSc students in case of a third attempt

MG Bachelor’s students who failed an exam of a course twice since 1 September 2010, must ask permission of the Examination Board if they want to sit the exam a third time (the so-called Request third attempt). For this reason the registration for the exam through Osiris by students who prepare for their ‘third attempt’ for this course will automatically be blocked, starting from the second block (quartile) of this academic year (2010-2012). In this case they can only register through BOZ-MB.

If your registration for a course has been blocked, even though less than two unsuccessful exam attempts or ‘fails’ have been recorded for you for this course since 1 September 2010, you can send an e-mail to BOZ-MB (boz-mb@mb.utwente.nl). This can happen because, unfortunately, Osiris just counts all unsuccessful attempts it finds in the past, not only the unsuccessful attempts since 1 September 2010. Beware (before you send an e-mail to BOZ): unsuccessful attempts include both marks below 6, and ‘no shows’. A ‘no show’ (‘NV’, or ‘niet verschenen’ in Dutch), has been recorded in Osiris as a fail, in case you failed to appear for an exam for which you registered via the SIS, and for which you did not deregister on time (see the Teaching and Examination Regulations or “OER”, art 8.12).

If you decide to send an e-mail to BOZ-MB, then do so as soon as possible, and do not forget include your student number, the course name and the course code.

BOZ will, upon arrival of your mail, take a closer look at the exact situation and will inform you about their findings and subsequent actions. So, keep a keen eye on your mailbox for their answer!

N.b. To prevent a ‘NV’ (‘niet verschenen”, or ‘no show’) being recorded in Osiris as an exam result, you must deregister on time for an exam you have registered for, but that you decide not to sit after all. You yourself can deregister through Osiris until the last day of the registration period of this exam. After that it is still possible to deregister up till 24 hours before the exam, by sending an e-mail to StudentServices@utwente.nl.
