General Information:

Martin Holterman studied European Law at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (NL) from 2000 – 2004 and economics (Finance as well as International Economics & Business) from 1999 - 2007.

Research:

Martin’s Ph.D. research consists of a theoretical analysis of the problem of semi-public institutions, applying the Neo-Institutional Economics to discuss when such a setup would be optimal. In so doing, the goal is to find the best possible way of applying legal insights and approaches in economic modelling. By confronting such theoretical work with the realities of the history of the railway industry in Western Europe since its inception, it is hoped that his research will shed light on both theory and reality.

Teaching:

In the 2008-2009 academic year, Martin will co-teach the course International Negotiations. Please see VIST for details.

Other academic interests:

Martin’s other interests include European Law, International Relations, particularly the International Human Rights regime as well as a host of issues related to doing business internationally, as well as, generally, any field of study where economics and law meet.
