Clare Shelley-Egan joined CSTM in September 2011 as a post-doc researcher on the Bioenergy to Overijssel (BE20) project which aims to contribute to the acceleration of the implementation of bioenergy in the province of Overijssel. Her current focus in the project is on mapping the socio-technical expectations regarding the inputs and outputs of biomass conversion technologies, namely torrefaction and pyrolysis.

Clare obtained a BSc. Microbiology from University College Cork in 2003 and an MSc. Science Communication from Dublin City University in 2004. Following completion of an MSc. by Research in Science and Technology Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2006, Clare joined the Department of Science, Technology and Policy Studies (STePS) at Universiteit Twente as a researcher on the European Commission - funded DEEPEN (Deepening Ethical Engagement and Participation in Emerging Nanotechnologies) project. Based on this project, she worked towards a PhD thesis . She earned her PhD in 2011 with a thesis entitled ‘Ethics in practice: responding to an evolving problematic situation of nanotechnology in society’.
