Gül (1977) holds M.Sc. degree in Integrated Assessment from University of Osnabrück, Germany and B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. She has professional experience in organisational design, process management and human resources management. During her studies in Integrated Assessment, she was also involved in the EU-funded WASAMED (Water Saving in Mediterranean Agriculture) Project and undertook research focusing on the indicators for sustainable water use in agriculture and socio-economic aspects of non-conventional water resources.

Between 2006 and 2009, she was enrolled at the external Ph.D. programme of CSTM. She joined CSTM in September 2009 to continue her research and pursue the Ph.D. degree. Her research is about public participation in water governance, with empirical focus on irrigated agriculture. Prof. Dr. Hans Bressers and Dr. Frans Coenen co-supervise the research.
