Karlijn Morsink (1984) holds a bachelor and master in Business Administration from the University of Twente, Enschede. In addition she has completed a minor focusing on Technology Development in a North-South perspective. Both during her bachelor and master she has studied the diffusion of innovations in developing countries, in the context of poverty reduction. To perform this research she has stayed for more than a year in rural India and Kenya to understand how and why low income households adopt innovations.
Karlijn began working at CSTM in October 2006 as a student and research assistant and two years later, in October 2008, is working on her PhD focusing on the influence of the international, national and local context on the adoption of innovations in developing countries. Her motivation stems from the belief that for initiatives focusing on technology transfer for poverty reduction to be effective, which is especially relevant with the focus on climate change and the Millennium Development Goals, an understanding is required about the influence of contextual factors on the uptake of these technologies.
She has worked with NGO HOPE and HESCO in India on the development of projects to promote the uptake of technologies and has collaborated with several universities in Kenya and India. Currently, next to her PhD, she is working with the Micro Insurance Association Netherlands (MIAN) which assists local organizations in developing countries in setting up micro insurance projects.
