Internationalization-CSTM project with our Mexican ECIU partner: II Symposium of Greening of Industry Network in Mexico City

CSTM (Prof. dr. Hans Bressers, dr. Theo de Bruijn and dr. Laura Franco), “Greening of Industry Network” and “Tecnologico de Monterrey” (CICA of Campus Mexico State) organised on 22nd to 24th April the II International Symposium in Mexico City. “Collaborative Strategies for Sustainable Development: Sustainable Water Management and Sustainable Production and Consumption” was the symposium title and it was held in Campus Mexico State of “Tecnologico de Monterrey” (Mexican ECIU partner).

Greening of Industry symposium in Mexico

Stakeholders involved along the implementation of environmental policy on “water management” and “sustainable production & consumption” were represented in the symposium. Some international speakers from GIN presented their research work. There were in total 45 speakers, making a very intensive and multi-disciplinarian program. The event had an attendance of 200 participants, from business, government, universities and non-governmental organizations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XG2jZxxVV0).

Prof. Hans Bressers opened the Symposium with his speech on “New Water Culture”, research done in 2005 in a European consortium. This lecture attracted the Mexican media attention and an article about it was published on 23th April in a newspaper of National edition (Reforma).

The Symposium closure did not formally take place due to the Mexican governmental decision to stop public activities in principle, because people should have the risk to be infected of the “flu” sickness. In consequence, the program of the last day was completely cancelled.

Looking at the positive results post-symposium, some new options came up straitening the existent collaboration among the 3 partners (CSTM-GIN-Tecnologico de Monterrey); one of those is the research stay of 5 students from Tecnologico de Monterrey at CSTM and 2 CSTM students in Mexico during this summer period.
