Seminar on the retirement of Egbert de Weert, Friday 28 June 2013

C:\Users\TuinK\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Word\Egbert.jpgOne of the research themes that our CHEPS colleague Egbert de Weert has been studying during his time in CHEPS (1987-2013) is graduate employability, or, more broadly, the relationship between higher education and the labour market. Just before Egbert ‘cleaned up his desk’ in order to start his ‘life after CHEPS’ he produced the report “Higher Education and the Labour Market: International Policy Frameworks for Regulating Graduate Employability” (study commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, February 2013).

We would like to honour the contribution that Egbert has made to CHEPS by organising a seminar on Friday, June 28. The theme is:

Graduate Employability:

Policy perspectives on the demand for and supply of tertiary educated graduates

In the seminar we will focus on ways to improve the interaction between Higher Education and the Labour Market and discuss some international experiences and policy initiatives to enhance the employability of graduates.

Apart from Egbert himself, three distinguished speakers will present their views on the theme of the seminar:

·

Ariana Need, professor in Sociology at the Department Social Risks & Safety Studies, School of Management & Governance, University of Twente

·

Ulrich Teichler, emeritus professor at the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER) of the University of Kassel

·

Rolf van der Velden, professor at Maastricht University and program director Education and Occupational Career at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA).

Clicking on the link below we will take you to some of the questions and issues we will discuss in the seminar. In the coming weeks we will provide more information on the issues that our speakers will address.

We kindly invite you to ‘save the date’ in your diary. To register for the seminar please fill out the electronic registration form. The seminar (free of charge) will be held at the University of Twente.

We will end the afternoon with a toast to Egbert, followed by a small buffet dinner.
