ECIU Leadership Development Programme

9th ECIU Leadership development programme will start 23 – 25 JANUARY 2013!

European higher education institutions operate in a complex global arena in which institutions compete cross-nationally for resources and the best students and staff. Universities nevertheless work within national institutional arrangements and are increasingly challenged by broader policy developments at a European level. In this context, it is crucial that institutions develop a clear profile and strategy. At the end of the last century, a group of universities wishing to further develop their profiles along similar lines formed the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU).

At an early stage, the ECIU adopted a Staff Development Programme, recognising that people are the most important asset of knowledge organisations. The aims included the establishment of a cohort of individuals who understand the European dimension of higher education, are enthusiastic about the further development of an innovative culture in the partner universities, and will form a strong network across the participating universities. From 2003 to 2012, over one hundred staff members, from both academic and administrative positions, from eleven ECIU universities have participated in the six Leadership Development Programmes offered to date.
