CAMPUS
The University of Twente campus is a home base for students on the move and a fertile ground for golden ideas. Step onto the campus and just beyond the main entrance you’ll find a dynamic living, working and social community of young people. This is the place to meet up with friends, join a sports club or see the latest theatre performance. Plus, with the student city of Enschede just around the corner, there is always something interesting going on, 24/7. For an overview, check out our interactive map on maps.utwente.nl.
Personal contact The University of Twente epitomizes the all the qualities that make a small university great. You won’t find any lectures taught in cavernous lecture halls here, and much of your work will be carried out in small groups. At the University, you'll never be in danger of getting lost in the masses. The campus is more like its own village, but with the facilities of a major city. You don't even need to step off the grounds for a toothache; the University’s own medical and dentistry services are always near at hand. And the ‘wireless’ campus means that when the sun is shining you can easily sit and work outside. |
Life outside the lecture hall Most on-campus facilities are run by students, supervised and organized by the Student Union. The range of activities on offer is endless. On campus you can play virtually every sport you can think of. And if your sport is not offered, all you need is a few fellow enthusiasts and you can set up your own club. In fact, that’s how many of the University's sports clubs got their start. For further information about on-campus sports, click on the Sports tab in the menu. If you're a music buff you’ve also come to the right place. With countless student bands, there is always a call for new band members. You can also join the jazz big band or symphony orchestra, or simply listen. You neighbours are sure to appreciate that the University of Twente offers special music studios where you can practise as loudly as you please. For further information about on-campus cultural clubs, click on the Culture tab in the menu. |
Getting acquainted Your life as a student will kick off with the KicK-In, with nine days of activities that introduce you to the University and its campus and the cities of Enschede and Hengelo. In an introduction group with 8-12 of your fellow students, you'll be given the full guided tour by a senior-year student and learn your way around academic and student life. You’ll be spending a lot of time with this group over the course of your time at the University – attending lectures and working on assignments together, but equally going out in evenings and weekends, to dinner, to see a film and socialize. All in all, your introduction to the University of Twente will be a week to remember! Visit the Kick-In site for further information. |
Once you become a student there are all sorts of issues and questions you'll be confronted with. When that happens, it’s important to know where and to whom you can turn for relevant information, guidance and advice. Student Counselling staff are available to help you with a wide range of questions and problems you may run into as a student. This includes questions about Dutch student financing and loans, academic support, what to do if you're unsure about where your interests lie, personal problems, what to do if you run up a study delay, and so on. Equally, they can help with questions relating to your rights and responsibilities as a student. Such as what you should do if there are circumstances preventing you from performing at your best and possibly leading to a study delay. They can tell you what sorts of provisions are available and where you can go for advice.
The University of Twente offers students guidance and advice on all aspects of academics and study choices, regulations, finances and study delay, as well as on personal problems influencing study progress.
