You pay the statutory tuition fee if you meet all three requirements below:

1.

enrolment requirement and

2.

nationality requirement and

3.

residency requirement.

Note! You have to meet all three requirements for the statutory tuition fee.

1. You meet the requirement of enrolment:

·

if you are a Bachelor’s or Master’s student, not having earlier obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or doctoral diploma at a Dutch institute of higher education;

·

or if you enrol for a second programme in the field of Education or Health1 and not having earlier obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or doctoral diploma at a Dutch institute of higher education in the field of Education of Health;

2. You meet the nationality requirement if you comply with one of the four requirements listed below:

·

you are a student with the nationality of an EEA country2;

·

you are a student with the Surinamese or Swiss nationality;

·

you are recognized as a refugee by the Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF);

·

you are a student from a non-EEA country, but who has the right to the Dutch student grant of the Student Finance Act (WSF 2000).

3. You meet the residency requirement:

·

if you at the commencement and during of the course, are a resident in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg or one of the German federal states Nordrhein-Westfalen, Niedersachsen or Bremen. From the academic year 2011-2012 you also need a verified address as a student.

If you don’t meet these three requirements above for the statutory tuition fee, you have to pay the institutional tuition fee.

You will pay the raised statutory fee if you are a long term student. If you are enrolled on the first of September 2012 for a programme at the University of Twente, you can study for the statutory fee during the official length of your Bachelor/Master programme plus one extra year of study. After this extra year you will have to pay the raised statutory fee. Starting from study year 2012-2013 you will pay €3,063 extra next to the payment of the statutory fee of €1,771.

If you don’t meet the requirements for the statutory tuition fee, you have to pay the institutional tuition fee.

2. TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENT FOR STUDENTS WHO PAY THE INSTITUTIONAL TUITION FEE IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2010-2011:

If you studied at the University of Twente in the academic year 2010-2011 and you have paid the institutional tuition fee, you might be entitled to a transition arrangement.

You are entitled to the transition arrangement till the end of your programme if you meet the next requirements:

·

you have started a Bachelor- or Master-programme or a pre master programme at the University of Twente before or during the academic year 2010-2011 and you pay the institutional tuition fee,

·

and you were enrolled for the academic year 2010-20113 ,

·

and you are enrolled in 2011-2012 for the complete academic year

·

and you will enroll in the academic 2011-2012 for the same programme for which you are enrolled in this academic year 2010-2011 or you have finished your pre-master and you will enrol for the corresponding Master programme.

3. TUITION FEES FOR A SECOND BACHELOR OR SECOND MASTER:

A new law becomes effective. It’s consequence is that the statutory tuition fee applies only for a first Bachelor- or a first Master programme and only if you meet all the requirements for the statutory tuition fee. If you graduated in the Netherlands for a Bachelor or a Master degree, or a doctoral after September 1991 you will pay the institutional tuition fee for your second Bachelor or Master programme.

For the University of Twente the following applies. Check which table applies to you.

A) You are enrolled for a first programme and for this programme you pay the statutory tuition fee. You enrol for a second programme.

Example 1

You are enrolled at the University of Twente for the academic year 2012-2013 for two programs and in January 2013 you graduate for the first programme. For the second programme you do not have to pay tuition fee up to January 2013. From February up to August 2013 you pay the statutory tuition fee for your second programme. For the academic year 2013-2014 you pay the institutional tuition fee for your second program.

Example 2

You are enrolled at the University of Twente for the academic year 2011-2012 for two programs and in January 2014 you graduate for the first programme. For the second programme you do not have to pay tuition fee up to January 2014. From February up to August 2014 you pay the statutory tuition fee for your second program. For the academic year 2014-2015 you pay the institutional tuition fee for your second program.

You have a degree/certificate of a former programme:

C) You are enrolled for a second programme before or during the academic year 2010-2011 and you already have a degree/diploma for a first programme.

Example 1

In the academic year 2010-2011 you graduate for a Bachelor programme and in the same academic year (2010-2011) you enrol for a second Bachelor programme at the University of Twente. From academic year 2013-2014 you have to pay the institutional tuition fee for this second Bachelor programme. The same goes for a second Master programme.

Example 2

In the academic year 2010-2011 you graduate for a Bachelor programme. In the academic year 2012-2013 you enrol for a second Bachelor programme at the University of Twente. You have to pay the institutional tuition fee. The same goes for a second Master programme.

You have to pay the statutory tuition fee if you also meet all the requirements for the statutory tuition fee.

Example 2

In the academic year 2010-2011 you graduate for a Master programme in the field of Education or Health and in the academic year 2012-2013 you enrol at the University of Twente for one of the next programs: M Leraar VHO Maatschappijleer; M Science Education and Communication; M Technical Medicine; M Health Sciences.

You have to pay the institutional tuition fee.
