Admission criteria
In addition to the general criteria, European Studies distinguishes two types of (inter)national education;
The admissions committee has specific requirements depending on your degree. We distinguish two categories: International degree and National degree. You can also find more information about a pre-master’s program and admission at this web page. Remark: an applicant with a Dutch nationality and an international degree will be assessed on the admissions requirements as mentioned under National degree. |

The admissions committee assesses applicants with a Bachelor’s degree awarded by a Non-Dutch Research University or University (college) for higher professional education on an individual basis. The assessment of the applicant’s skills is based on:
Students who want to start the MA programme in September need to finish their colloquium before September 1. Remark: an applicant with a Non-Dutch nationality and a Dutch degree will be assessed on the admissions requirements as mentioned under International degree. |

Students with a Bachelor degree in a related field from another Dutch university will be eligible for admission, provided they completed three of the following subjects as part of the Bachelor degree course:
For students with a Bachelor degree from another Dutch university and who have a deficiency of more than 20 EC a decision on an individual basis is made. |

Pre-master |

The pre-master’s program (30 EC), for an applicant with a degree at the level of University (college) for higher professional education, comprises the following modules: Pre-master programme first semester 1st quartile: - Concept and Observation - Governance of European Social Policies - Democratic dilemmas of European Governance 2d quartile: - Research Methodology - Design Methodology A choice between: - European Legal Governance - European Economic Governance Pre-master programme second semester 3d quartile: - Concept and Observation - EU external legal relations - Global social problems 4th quartile: - Research Methodology - Design Methodology A choice between: - EU external political relations - EU external economic relations |

The pre-master programme is offered twice a year: in the first semester, starting in September and in the second semester, starting in February. The course language is both in English. After the pre-master programme has been fully completed in February, the student will be admitted directly to the Master programme, which starts only in September or in April when you are admitted to the 1½ year programme. If the student is admitted to the (pre-)Master programme an admission letter will be received including a pre-enrolment form. This form has to be filled in and returned to sender. |

If you would like to find out whether you are eligible for admission, and you are curious about the possible composition of your pre-master’s programme, complete the application form at our website (see application lieft in the navigation menu). This is entirely without obligation. You will be informed about your admission within 6 to 8 weeks. If you register well in advance (no more than 3 months before the start of the pre-master’s programme), then we will see to it that you are informed about your admission on time. If the applicant is considered eligible for the Master programme European Studies by the admission committee, s/he receives a notification of acceptance and/or of the necessity to follow (parts of) the Pre-Master. Attention please!If you are a student at the Saxion Hogeschool, than it would be possible to do a pre-masterprogramme during your HBO-study. This is called a ‘doorstroomminor’ (dsm).
