Specialization "Surface Technology and Tribology"

of the master 'Mechanical Engineering'

Components in equipment and constructions that rub against each other as they move, experience friction and wear. Friction plays a decisive role in the life span, energy loss experienced, performance and costs of equipment and installations. The subjects of this specialization investigate the complex processes involved in the prediction and control of friction and wear, in which the construction, materials and potential lubricants (e.g. fluids, oils or gas) all play a role. As design and production necessarily involve the creation and generation of new surfaces, this specialization is presented in close co-operation with the specializations Design Engineering, Production Management and Production Technology.

You can find more information about the research in this specialization on the website of the Surface Technology and Tribology research chair.
