Studieprogramma

The Master of Science programme IDE (120 EC) offers five specializations, Architectural Building Components Design Engineering (ABCDE), Cradle to Cradle (C2C), Design & Styling (D&S), Management of Product Development (MPD) and Emerging Technology Design (ETD). Furthermore, IDE and ME (Mechanical Engineering) jointly offer the MSc program Industrial Design and Manufacturing (IDM) (www.idm.utwente.nl). The IDE master programme consists of theory courses and projects (together 75 EC) and a master graduation assignment (45 EC).

Typically, one-third of the courses are compulsory for all IDE students, while about another one-third is compulsory for the students of the particular track. The other courses are chosen with regard to the ambitions of the student and the theme of the graduation assignment.

The co-coordinator of the track approves the student’s program after a careful check of its coherence and depth. Thereafter the programme is submitted to the Examination Committee for a final approval. After approval the student is admissible to the courses.

The graduation assignment is an individual project with a focus on either design or on research. The assignment can be undertaken in one of the university’s laboratories or externally in a company or in a design firm. The graduation projects give students the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in applying their knowledge and skills acquired during the preceding years at a master’s of science level.
