Career perspectives

The Master of Science Health Sciences will make you pre-eminently suitable for tackling work at the highest levels in all sections of the health service. You will be able to take on management or staff posts at health care institutions, such as hospitals, nursing homes and residential care homes. However, you can just as easily take up a position at a Municipal (or regional) Health Authority (GGD) or at a local authority, as a policy-maker or policy advisor. And how about a job in the educational sector, at a university or a research institute for instance? It is also possible to pursue a career in the service sector and in industry, at an organizational consultancy or health insurance provider for example.

As a graduate specializing in the Health Technology Assessment specialization, you will be able to work as a policy consultant and researcher in the area of healthcare policy and chronic illness. You could also find a job as a project worker or project leader in the medical and pharmaceutical industries or at governmental institutes.

As a graduate of the Health Services Management specialization, you will be able to work as a member of management staff or project manager in a healthcare institution. As a member of management staff, you might advise the Executive Board about a new project designed to discharge patients from hospital as swiftly as possible, or you could also work as a quality policy assistant or member of project staff in healthcare innovation. Consider intensive care for chronically ill patients. As a project manager you might be in charge of introducing a new method for giving patients proper treatment in primary healthcare centres, outside the hospital. Or you could of course opt for a career in research or choose a job with a (semi) government body, such as the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and the Environment or the Healthcare Insurance Board.
