An ageing population has led to an increase in the incidence of diseases such as Parkinson, Alzheimer and strokes. In the long term, we can expect a huge rise in the demand for healthcare. Moreover, patients are becoming more demanding: they are no longer prepared to sit back and wait, but are taking on the role of critical consumers. Also increasingly stringent quality requirements and amendments to legislation and regulations are now occurring in healthcare insurance systems.
