Studying Health Sciences at the University of Twente

Health Sciences

The Master’s in Health Sciences is an innovative programme offering two specializations: ‘Health Services and Management’ and ‘Health Technology Assessment and Innovation’.

New medical-technological developments have changed our perception of ideal healthcare. An ageing population has led to a greater incidence of conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and strokes. In the long term we can expect a huge rise in the demand for healthcare. Moreover, patients are becoming more vocal: they are no longer prepared to sit back and wait, but are taking on the role of critical consumers. Insurance systems are also subject to increasingly stringent quality requirements and frequent amendments to legislation.
All these developments have massive implications for healthcare. Which technology should be introduced and which should not? What obstacles should we expect to meet along the way? How can we improve healthcare delivery? How can we involve patients in the decision-making processes? Finding and communicating the best solutions to these problems is a real challenge.
As a Health Sciences student you will learn how to implement high-tech advances in healthcare and strategies for optimizing healthcare organization while maintaining a human touch. You will also become an expert in evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare technologies.
