Welcome to the website of Technical Cognition
This website provides information about Technical Cognition research at the University of Twente.
The aim of Technical Cognition is to investigate and develop cognitive abilities for technical systems. With cognitive abilities as found in humans, technical systems would be able to perceive their environment, learn from their observations, interact with other technical systems and with humans, deal with novel and ambiguous situations and act in a purposive way.
By investigating human cognition and the brain we can develop models of cognitive mechanisms, which can be integrated and embedded in technical systems. Neural mechanisms of cognition are particularly interesting in this respect. As cognitive mechanisms, they would have the flexibility and fault tolerance of humans. As technical systems, they could be implemented in new hardware inspired by biological and neural principles. This would allow these systems to process information faster and to interact with the physical world in real time.
A multidisciplinary research effort is required to achieve the objectives of Technical Cognition. Researchers interested in any aspect of Technical Cognition are invited to participate in this effort.
