Management of Innovation & Entrepreneurship

The research of the SRO Management of Innovation & Entrepreneurship focuses on establishing a fundamental understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship / business development, predominantly in technological contexts. Factors taken into consideration have their origin in operations management, organization theory, organizational behaviour, business ethics, human resource management, strategy, marketing and communication, international management and entrepreneurship. The SRO builds on the interaction between characteristics of Technology, Innovation, Human Resources, and Entrepreneurship within and between Organizations. In this a.Multi-level and multidimensional analysis of network actors in processes of innovation and entrepreneurship is taken. An approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in process-oriented research.

We expect a midterm revision / adjustment of this program medio-2012.

The mission of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship group is to work at the international forefront of academic research on the organization and management of innovation and entrepreneurship, to apply this knowledge in practice at regional, national and global scales, to support research-oriented learning among our students, and to provide a working environment in which our colleagues and students are encouraged to excel in this field.

The research focuses on establishing a fundamental understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship / business development, predominantly in technological contexts. Factors taken into consideration have their origin in operations management, organization theory, organizational behaviour, business ethics, human resource management, strategy, marketing and communication, international management and entrepreneurship.

Research in the SRO moves between three cornerstones:

1.

The interaction between characteristics of Technology, Innovation, Human Resources, and Entrepreneurship within and between Organizations related to (innovation) performance in production and services firms.

2.

Multi-level and multidimensional analysis of network actors in processes of innovation and entrepreneurship.

3.

An approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in process-oriented research. Furthermore, in line with the “engaged scholarship approach” (Van de Ven, 2008), the practical relevance of this area of research is considered to be a cornerstone of academic development. This approach allows us to describe, explain, and predict the performance of innovation and entrepreneurship constellations. Furthermore, we apply our expertise in the design of new constellations in organizational networks to improve the performance of innovation and entrepreneurship processes.

Technological developments play an important role in our choice of fields to research. Developments in for example nanotechnology, information and communication technology, regenerative medicine, new construction materials & methods, and new production technologies are in our close vicinity in development at the University of Twente’s technology oriented research institutes (MESA+, CTIT, MIRA). Both product oriented firms as services oriented firms are studied (and integrated were products and services intertwine).

The SRO Innovation and Entrepreneurship embodies a large group of researchers organized in smaller theme groups. International collaboration is important to specialize and at the same time to keep scale.
