Events for PhD's within IGS
IGS wants to provide an inspiring and innovative environment for its PhD’s. As of 2012 we have put together a new website for PhD’s and we are planning to organize several meetings and events for this special group of young researchers within our institute. Here we keep you posted on current developments and upcoming events and will be regularly updated. For further questions you can contact the IGS office.
Upcoming IGS PhD-events:

IGS Academic Poster Competition. The workshops Creating and Presenting an Academic poster are being followed up by the IGS Academic Poster Competition. IGS wants to invite all partakers of both the workshops (the 7 participants of the workshop of the 22nd of March and the 11 participants of the workshop of the 29th of March) to compete within the IGS Academic Poster Competition. The Academic Poster Competition offers a stage where you can bring into practice all the knowledge you have gained during this workshop. We want to challenge you into designing a new and updated poster of your most recent research and send it to the IGS office before the 2nd of May. Please therefore use the IGS template in pdf, which can be found at the IGS website (http://www.utwente.nl/igs/research_services/createposter/). The IGS Office, will make sure the poster is printed on a large format, and places it in a special aluminum frame that is yours to keep. On the 9th of May (16.30 hrs until 18.00 hrs) we are organizing PhD Drinks at the Faculty Club (see also the bullet below), where we will place all the posters and a committee of senior scientists within our institute will judge these posters and select the winner of the IGS Academic Poster Prize. |

IGS bi-monthly PhD Drinks (16.30 hrs – 18.00 hrs @ the Faculty Club): every two months IGS will organize a small and informal get together for its PhD’s. In 2012 these drinks will be held on : the 9th of May, the 13th of September and the 8th of November. |

IGS introductory lunch meeting for new PhD’s: twice a year our institute organizes a lunch meeting for PhD’s that have recently begun their PhD trajectory, during this lunch meeting our Scientific Director and our Executive Director will be present and introduce our PhD’s with the goals and research within IGS. |

The IGS annual PhD Day will take place on the 26th of September 2012. More detailed information on the programme can be found on this website and will be e-mailed to PhD’s within our institute. But please mark the 26th of September in your agenda’s! More information on past PhD Days can be found here. |
From the 26th of August 2012 until the 31st, the 22nd EIASM European Doctoral Summer School on Technology Management will be held at the University of Twente. PhD’s within the Twente Graduate School Programme INN&ENT can take part in this summer school being part of their curriculum, but the summer school and its programme might also be very interesting for other PhD’s. If you are interested, you can contact the EIASM organization.
We are also planning to organize other events on a more occasional base. By means of this website and e-mails we will keep you posted on these events. Also when you want to share an event or congress to all PhD’s within our institute, you can contact our office and we will post it on our events calendar.
Courses offered by the UT Central HR department
On a central level within the University of Twente, a number of general courses, workshops and events is being organized where IGS PhD’s can take part in. See below for an overview of all these courses for the upcoming year. You can sign up for these courses by using the links to the website. The number of participants for most of these courses is quite limited, so please make sure to register on time.

Courses offered by the Twente Graduate School
PhD’s from IGS can also take part in courses that are offered by the Twente Graduate School (TGS). For more information on the courses and events organized by TGS, please check their website.
An upcoming event of the Twente Graduate School is their course Ethics of Technology that starts on the 23rd of April. More information on this course can be found here.
Courses offered by Research Schools
PhD’s within IGS take part in several different research schools. PhD research is strongly linked to specific disciplines. A broad area of courses is offered by the various research schools that operate within these disciplines. The scope of the courses varies per school and discipline.
