Invitation on behalf of the Twente Graduate School:
Dear PhD candidate,
Twente Graduate School offers an increasing variety of integrated master's and PhD programmes for outstanding postgraduate students who aim at a career in scientific research. The programmes are set up in cooperation between faculties and research institutes.(http://www.utwente.nl/ctit/, http://www.utwente.nl/mesaplus/ ,http://www.utwente.nl/mira/ , http://www.utwente.nl/igs/).TGS itself offers a limited number of broadening and academic skills courses which are partly compulsory (for students participating in TGS programmes) and open for all University of Twente PhD students (whether they are AiO, externally funded or here with a scholarship). Herewith we invite you to attend our upcoming TGS Workshops which are planned for 11 and 12 October and targeted at recently started PhDs (started in academic year 2012-2013, both days) or in academic year 2011-2012 (12 October, if you already attended the Introductory Workshop)
TGS Introductory workshop- Welcoming all PhD graduate students at UT: 11 October 2012.
In these sessions, we pay attention to the overall structure of doing a PhD at the University of Twente, with a Tips and Tricks session for thesis research planning and progress, and we introduce TGS, and what it has to offer for you. These workshops are held twice per year. On 11 October, we offer the workshop in two sessions. By the end of the morning session, PhD’s:
· |
have a view on the overall PhD-process (the phases, milestones, pitfalls, prevent and/or cope with those pitfalls) |
· |
and are aware of their expectations concerning supervision. |
· |
know the general structure of TGS and what it has to offer in terms of broadening and academic skills courses |
Between the talks, there will be some ‘elevator pitches’ from PhDs who dare to share their research with you, in just three minutes!
Date: Thursday 11th of October (all day) The exact time and location will be announced after your registration. Registration: Please send an email to: e.r.cheret@utwente.nl stating that you want to participate in the introductory session on Thursday 11th of October. Please register before the 6th of October.

After lunch there will be parallel sessions with workshops for each of the TGS broadening courses: ‘Ethics of Technology’, ‘Entrepreneurship & Valorization’, ‘Advanced Science Communication’, and ‘Methodologies in the Engineering Sciences’. Each workshop will offer an inspiring content part which may directly be useful for your PhD work, as well as the opportunity for you to receive and give input for optimally aligned broadening courses. Afterwards there will be a plenary session with an interesting speaker. Date: Friday 12th of October (all day) The exact time and location will be announced after your registration.
