About iCRiSP

The goal of iCRiSP is to explore and to implement knowledge from social and behavioural sciences regarding issues of conflict, risk and safety in public and private sectors of society.

Over the past decades, issues of safety and security became prominent aspects of daily life. This concerns social safety (crime in general and terrorist incidents in particular), physical safety (either with 'man-made' or natural risks), ecological safety (e.g., global warming and pollution), as well as safety-related behaviour in organisational settings (i.e., internal safety) and consumer settings (e.g. concerning food, health, or transportation).

The effective management of these issues increasingly depends on integrated scientific knowledge on how citizens experience safety issues and risks, their receptivity to different types of influence and communication strategies, and the actual management of conflict and crisis incidents.

iCRiSP aims to expand this knowledge and make it accessible to society, and to bring researchers in these fields together in an international network.

The iCRiSP centre is led by Prof. dr. Ellen Giebels and dr. Jan Gutteling.

VALORISATION

Valorisation is defined by iCRiSP as the sustainable implementation of research results in society. iCRiSP is currently developing activities to achieve this goal in collaboration with the Library of the University of Twente and several other partners.

An innovative project called ESCAPE has been commissioned by Surf, to develop an electronic environment for delivering 'enhanced documents'.
