TeleMed 09 conference, Royal Society of Medicine, 23-24 November 2009, London
The Telemedicine and eHealth section of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK) organizes its annual conference with this year’s maxim being: ‘It's all about the patient - The role of eHealth’.
Telemedicine continues to evolve both clinical and tele-health applications to improve patient healthcare. There is an increasing global focus on empowering patients themselves in their own medical management. Telemed 09 aims to put the patient at the centre of the delivery of medical treatment in a series of academic and clinical presentations.
Medical informatics Congress (MIC) 2009, November 26-27, Veldhoven
For the 26th time the MIC is organized by VMBI, in collaboration with NVMA, Nictiz, VVZI and the Belgian Medical Informatics Association MIM.
The 2009 program consists of three main tracks: ‘Past and Present’, ‘Near Future’, and ‘Nirwana’
On Thursday, November the 26th, the UT- Center for eHealth Research and Disease management and RIVM will convene a session on eHealth within in the ‘Near future’ track.
Central to this session is consumer orientation. Interventions that best fit personal and professional needs appear to be most successful in implementation for both patients and professionals. Development of e-interventions should aim for this. How do stakeholders (Dutch association for eHealth, ZIP, NOW, VWS et al.) account for this and strive for realizing e-disease management?
Launch Project Eursafety-Health Net, November 19, 2009
The EU encourages cross-border mobility of European citizens with regard to healthcare systems. When it comes to chronic (e.g. diabetes, COPD) and infectious diseases {e.g. HIV, new influenza (H1N1), TBC}, patient-safety is at stake.
EURsafety, an Interreg IVa-project, is a cross border project for disease management.
The project aims to improve patient-safety by:
1) Conducting research into the economical effects of infectious diseases (using RIVM’s chronic care model)
2) Developing preventive interventions for professionals and patients, and
3) Creating a cross-border infection control network healthcare services alongside the whole Dutch-German border EUregions Maas-Rijn, Maas-Rijn-Noord, Rijn-Waal, Gronau-Enschede, Ems-Dollard.
An eHealth platform will be developed for monitoring (risk management), communication, sharing information and for online logistics (lab results, scheduling etc). The project starts with two PHD-studies; developing the eHealth platform for disease management and developing of an adequate business model for the implementation of the platform.
The six-year project builds on the work of the successful MRSA-net (see research: Thesis Fenne Verhoeven) and the Euregional infrastructure and communication networks that have been created during Verhoeven’s work. The organizational and operational work will be executed at the Center for eHealth Research and Disease management while the project management is shared with one of the largest universities of Germany, the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) Münster.
The EURsafety project will be officially launched in the presence of both Universities Boards on November the19th, 2009 at Grolsch Veste in Enschede. The program is available at our website.
E-Mental Health summit 2009, October 4-16, Amsterdam
The First International E-Mental Health Summit 2009 is initiated by the Trimbos Institute, the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam and endorsed by the International Society for Research on Internet Interventions.
At the conference the UT- Center for eHealth Research and Disease Management and RIVM will arrange a symposium on technology and innovation. The coordinating concept is ‘e-disease management’ with regard to major disease such as diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular diseases, migraine and psychiatric disorders. The potential of e-technologies that elegantly respond to emotional needs (affective components) intermediating ICT use is addressed as well as the power of technologies to innovate healthcare organization.
This session takes place Thursday October, the 15th at 11:00-12:15 and comprises short lectures from Dr. Van Gemert-Pijnen, Drs. S. Kelders, Prof. Yardley and Drs. Nijland. For More information …
Evaluation symposium ‘Supporting health by technology II’
The annual symposium last May attracted approximately 300 participants from research institutions (ca. 45%), health care (21%), industry (15) and policy (5%). Plenary sessions, presentations and posters sessions were well-attended in an atmosphere of interest and cooperation. Key note contributions and visual impressions can be viewed here.
Over 80% of the participants rated the event between 7and 9 (10-point scale) while most appreciated the presentations and usefulness of the conference. A vast majority would like to return the next time.
In a special issue of the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare Dutch and Belgian research presented at the symposium will be published later this year. This reputed peer-reviewed journal is the official journal of NVEH, the Dutch association of eHealth.
RAND/Capgemini restricted expert meeting
The Center for eHealth Research investigates business modeling to better understand implementation of successful e-interventions in healthcare. RAND Europe and Capgemini Netherlands examine business models for sustainable e-health systems in Europe. As this project starts to complete some of its primary activities, the Center participated in a meeting (July, 2009) to discuss the initial findings. This event was organized together with the ICT for eHealth Unit of DG Information Society and Media who supports the study. Further opportunities for cooperation UT-RAND are explored.
Spam?
A recent mailing from us encountered technical problems with fileservers. Receiving mail servers which could not deliver their mails bounced back generating error-messages, often identified as ‘spam’ all over the place. We have put our list servers down as soon as possible and are taking measures to prevent this in the future.
