AWARDS Digital world Conference, Cancun, Mexico

Drs. Ossebaard, Dr. Gemert, Ms. Kelders and Ms. Nijland

February 1- 7 the international conference Digital World 2009 took place in Cancun, Mexico. Organizing body was the International Academy, Research and Industry Association IARIA, a non-governmental organization that aims to exchange scientific research outcomes in technology. Digital World 2009 is the umbrella above seven conferences each addressing the impact of ICT on human life and experience;

• ICQNM 2009, The Third International Conference on Quantum, Nano and Micro Technologies
• GEOWS 2009, The International Conference on Advanced Geographic Information Systems & Web Services
• eL&mL 2009, International Conference on Mobile, Hybrid, and On-line Learning
• eKNOW 2009, International Conference on Information, Process, and Knowledge Management
• eTELEMED 2009, International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine.

The Centre for eHealth Research was represented by Dr. Lisette van Gemert, Drs. Hans C. Ossebaard and PhD students Saskia Kelders and Nicol Nijland. They lectured in the eTELEMED programme that was structured by eleven themes such as the cost-effectiveness of eHealth systems, preventive eHealth, tele-medicine in care, data systems and information processing. Researchers from all over the world presented a wide variety of subjects and exchanged their outcomes regarding policy, practices, usability, ICtechnology and design.

Eight contributions were awarded as ‘best papers’. Among them two papers of the Centre for eHealth Research: 'Computer Generated Self-Care Advice via Web-Based Triage of Complaints in Primary Care' (by Nijland et al.), en 'The Development of a Web-Based Tool for Compliance with Safe Work Practices; a Case Study about ‘Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus’(by Verhoeven et al.).

Dr. Van Gemert and drs. Ossebaard were invited to join the Advisory Board of eTELEMED to advance the ambition of international, trans-disciplinary exchange in the field of eHealth
