DIABETES RESEARCH
Maastricht University and UT collaborated to submit a research proposal (Diabetes Fund) that aims to improve an existing application for people with Diabetes II. The application DIEP (Diabetes Interactive Education Programme) is one of the few interventions rated as a promising best practice. The proposal combines co-design and co-creation methods in a human-centered approach while business modeling is used to achieve stronger adherence and a wider implementation.
DOMOTICS
Nursing home Bruggerbosch and PhD student N. Nijhof cooperate to find out if advanced domotics can be supportive for people with dementia who stay home instead of being admitted to a nursing home. In the research we use two different kinds of technologies. The first one is ADLife, which is a sensor technology measuring a standard physical pattern and gives alarms if there are too many changes from the standard pattern. The data is checked by nurses every week who contact the client or contact persons if something is wrong. So far we could already see that someone didn't cook anymore and didn't sleep in his/her bed, but in the chair instead. The other system is PAL4, a touch-screen, specially made for people with dementia, to see their agenda, get reminders, for communication between family members, playing memory games as well as for video contact with the nurse. We hope to finish the research at the end of 2010 and that the results give an input to a business model.
SOR 2011-2014 (HCO)
RIVM and UT collaborated to submit a research proposal for the RIVM strategic research program 2011-2014. The innovative proposal seeks to investigate the use of social media for prevention and control of infectious diseases. Final decision will be in October.
