THE 3RD WORLD CONGRESS OF TELEDERMATOLOGY- TELEDERM 2010 – AMSTERDAM, OCTOBER 28-30, 2010.

The 3rd World Congress of Teledermatology – TeleDerm 2010 - was held in Amsterdam from October 28-30, 2010. The Scientific Committee put together three day scientific meeting covering current issues in Teledermatology.

Telemedicine utilizes modern telecommunication technology to exchange expert medical information. The inherently visual nature of dermatology makes it easily applicable to virtual medicine.

Teledermatology holds great potential for revolutionizing the delivery of dermatologic services. It provides a well-defined channel for interaction with experts’ dermatology.

The 3rd World Congress of Teledermatology brought together all professionals interested in teledermatology.

Clinical studies, benefits for health workers and patients, new developments, business models, implementation issues, security and legal aspects and e-learning were discussed.

KNMG-NVEH CONGRESS, UTRECHT OCTOBER 27, 2010.

While many e-Applications are implemented and research is mounting, many health care providers view eHealth as exotic. At the congress How is your eHealth? trendsetting doctors know the advantage of telemedicine and telecare and show this to their colleagues. Also pitfalls and obstacles will be discussed.

A collaborative publication eHealth in Beeld by the Royal Dutch Society for Medicine (KNMG), the Dutch Association of eHealth (NVEH) and eHealthNu will be presented.

SINO-DUTCH COOPERATION PICKS UP AT WORLD EXPO 2010

On request of NWO/ZonMw, Dr. Lisette van Gemert-Pijnen contributed to the scientific program at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai (August 2010). Her presentation Human centered medical devices for an ageing society focuses on persuasive technology for the elderly and opportunities for collaboration and exchange with Chinese scientists and students.It was presented at the JSTP workshop Medical Devices for an Ageing Society which aims to discuss Sino-Dutch research challenges to be addressed in the JSTP bilateral call for research proposals in 2011.

During the workshop, Dutch and Chinese scientists presented both the state of the art of research and the opportunities for Sino-Dutch cooperation. Dr. Lisette presented the Critical factors for sense-making technology from a social-behavioural perspective.

The Sino-Dutch meeting was organized by The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (KNAW), Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (NWO) and The Netherlands Organisation for health research and development (ZonMw). In the fringe a 3TU committee met to discuss cooperation with China.

The Social Sciences University in Shanghai organised a visit to a community centre in Shanghai to discuss the challenges for cooperation with the University of Twente, Institute of Social Science and Technology.

RVZ PUBLISHES ADVISORY REPORT ON HEALTH 2.0

Earlier this year the Council for Public Health and Health Care (RVZ) published an advisory report on Health 2.0. To discuss developments and trends RVZ released a NING community 'rvz-health20.ning.com' (Health 2.0 platform, RVZ). The platform has a growing amount of active members.

Since August 20th this platform has moved to MINDZ.com. The new address is:

Gezondheid 2.0 platform is still a beta version so some irregularities and low speed may occur.

PORTAL KIESBETER.NL

Our Centre frequently collaborates with RIVMs Dutch national health and care portal kiesBeter. Recently the Ministry of Health extended this project for 2011-2013 in order to provide health citizens with reliable information to support personal decisions in a consumer centered health care system.

DR. FENNE VERHOVEN IS BID FAREWELL

Dr. Fenne Verhoeven has taken a new position as a lector at Hogeschool Utrecht. In 2009 she successfully defended her PhD thesis on healthcare related infection control (MRSA-net) at the UT. She was affiliated with the Center for eHealth Research where she recently published a systematic review on teleconsultation in diabetes care. We wish her the best of luck and hope to further cooperate in a different form.
