Conference venue and travel
We recommend travelling to the UT by train where possible. There are regular connections from the main Dutch airport, Schiphol, although Enschede is also accessible from Münster-Osnabrück, Dortmund and Düsseldorf.
The journey from Schiphol to the University of Twente by train takes around two and a half hours.
Reserved tickets are not readily available for journeys within the Netherlands, and so tickets must be bought at the NS-Ticket office in the Schiphol entrance hall. Return tickets are only valid on the same day, so you need to purchase a single ticket to Enschede Drienerlo, which will cost €21.00. The ticket machines do not always accept foreign bank cards.
The conference begins at 15.30 in the UT campus, and therefore a train around mid-day will be required. There are two trains per hour, at hh.20 and hh.50. Check the NS station website for the schedule.
For trains departing at 50 minutes past the hour, you must change once, after two hours, at Almelo, and take the local train in the direction of Enschede, for one stop, to Enschede Drienerlo.
For trains departing at 20 minutes past the hour, two changes are required. The first is at Amersfoort, after c. 45 minutes, where the train required departs from the otherside of your arrival platform. Cross to the other side of the platform and travel a further 1.15 to Almelo, then change, and take the local train in the direction of Enschede, for one stop, to Enschede Drienerlo.
At Drienerlo, cross under the rail bridge to enter the science park. It is then around a 15 minute walk or short bus ride to the Campus.
The conference registration is in building 12, Waaier. We will pick all participants and keynotes up from their hotels at about 15.00-15.10 and we will walk together to the conference venue. The exact time will be indicated in an email sent a couple of days prior to the conference.
To walk, a map is available here. The NS station is located at the bottom left hand side of the map.
There is also a bus stop at the Drienerlo train station. Take a bus in the direction of UT/ Langenkampweg two stops to Hallenweg, and use the campus map to find Waaier. A single bus ticket costs €2.50.
