Commissioner of Education
S.G. Daedalus is the study association of the study Industrial Design Engineering. The board of S.G. Daedalus has a daily board (chairman, secretary and treasurer) and a Commissioner of Education (Dutch: OC). The Commissioner of Education is responsible for affairs within the association that are related to education. Below, you will find some examples of a CE’s job:

The Commissioner of Education is involved in several educational organs. The Education Committee (OLC) safeguards the quality of the study. Further on, there is the Overleg OnderwijsCommissarissen or OOC (English: Consult Education Commissionaires) in which all OOCs meet to exchange ideas, so nobody has to discover the same thing twice. Also, often there are meetings between the Director of Education and the track coordinator. At these meetings, new developments and complaints can be discussed.

Some committees of S.G. Daedalus are under the care of the Commissioner of Education. He or she coordinates the Evaluation Committees. Together with this committee, he or she decides what subjects will be evaluated during the next academic year.

A continuous task of the Commissioner of Education is keeping in mind the opinions of the students. When there are complaints, the Commissioner, because of the involvement in many organs and committees, can act quickly and try to create solutions.

The Book Committee is the committee that takes care of the books for the IDE students and is part of S.G. Daedalus. S.G. Daedalus is responsible for making sure that ordering and delivering of the books go well.

Complaints about education
The most effective way to improve the education is through subject evaluations. It is very important that all students fill in the evaluation surveys.

Students can discuss individual complaints, or complaints that need to be handled quickly, with the Commissioner of Education, but also with other S.G. Daedalus board members, the student members of the Education Committee and the Evaluation Committee. Do not hesitate to talk to them, after all: they are there for the IDE students!

Another option is to file a complaint via the complaint form on the website of S.G. Daedalus. It is possible to anonymously file a complaint, when you find it necessary to remain anonymous. It is very important that problems are addressed at all times. This is the only way for the problems to be solved, including the problems for future IDE students. S.G. Daedalus and its board play an important part in safeguarding the quality of education.

Support from S.G. Daedalus

S.G. Daedalus is also there to support you during the course of your study. This is done in several ways. The exam and summary bank has been made a central information bank since last year. This exam bank can be found via the website of S.G. Daedalus (via onderwijs > ondersteuning). The exam bank is constantly updated by S.G. Daedalus and contains the latest summaries of books and examplary exam questions.

Also, S.G. Daedalus documents the experiences of the students. This can be very valuable for other students when they have to make the right choices. Furthermore, the board has much knowledge and many useful connections. Another service that S.G. Daedalus provides, is the offering of professional literature and inspirational books. For more inspiration and insights in designing, always up to date knowledge and of course for your own amusement, you can check out the possibilities. In the StudIO it is possible to read many different books and magazines, order them or subscribe to certain magazines.

Workshops, excursions, lectures
S.G. Daedalus wants to supplement the study when they find it necessary. The curriculum is very full and this is an academic study. Unfortunately, this means that there sometimes is no possibility to obtain certain skills that an IDE student might make good use of. That is why several workshops are being organized, including basic training for the usage of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator en Wacom.

Excursions are organized by S.G. Daedalus. Because of these excursions, it is possible to look inside design agencies. How do they work? And how do they realize their designs?

Furthermore, there are excursions to businesses and exhibitions. By organizing excursions, S.G. Daedalus wants to show its members exactly how the business life works and all about what can become their future work environment.

Often there are lectures, which serve different goals. One time, a designer tells us about his design agency or about specific products, another time staff members and students of the study talk about their master thesis. Be sure to regularly look at the online agenda of S.G. Daedalus to stay up to date about these activities.
