ICT at your work station
Introduction
As a student on the UT you have various information and communication technologies (ICT) resources available to you at your work station. These resources make it possible to carry out (part of) your study. We are often more dependent on the proper functioning of this equipment than we realize.
On this website, you will find documentation and information about all these ICT resources. If you have any questions or problems, this will hopefully help you to quickly resolve them.
Notebook offer from the UT
Every year in the summer, the UT has a number of notebooks on offer at interesting prices for all (prospective) students of the UT. A choice of several notebooks is offered at a low price. For a number of study programmes at the UT, a specific model has been selected based on the demands this study programme makes on students. In this way you can be assured of a work station that optimally supports you in your studies.
The notebooks are supplied via the ICTS Notebook Service Centre. More information can be found on the website of the NSC.
About the website section "ICT at your work station"
With "ICT at your work station" in this context we mean all information and communications equipment at your 'fixed work station'. This could be your notebook (whether ordered via the Notebook Service Centre or not) and also your regular home PC (on the campus, in the city, at your parents, etc.) and PC-room work station or a work station in a laboratory at the UT.
If you live on the Campus, the fixed telephone line (if provided via the UT) in your flat or apartment is included in this section.
Wireless network (WLAN) en Smart phones / PDA's
The “work station” of a student is often located outside the UT area. Many students take their notebooks along to locations outside the UT. At that moment, their work station is where they are.
Furthermore, an increasing number of people have a Smartphone/PDA, with which they remain accessible while traveling and can consult their E-mail or calendar.
Although the UT officially doesn’t support students in the use of their Smart phones, we have collected some manuals and tips in the “Smart phones and PDA’s” section. Hopefully these documents guide you in using your Smart phone or PDA for your UT means.
PC-Room and faculties
Finally, there are the PC-room work stations in the university library in the Vrijhof, which can be used during research work there, for example. Some faculties maintain laboratories, which can be used for practicals during the study programme. All these resources thereby constitute components of a 'mobile work station', and are likewise included in the concept 'ICT at your work station'.
