Home work station
Nowadays, many staff have a broadband connection at home via a commercial provider.
Via this internet connection, you can also access the UT websites and e-mail servers. You can also access your files on the UT network drive. For security considerations, it is in some cases necessary to construct a so-called VPN interface.
VPN
A Virtual Private Network is a connection over the Internet between your PC (work station) and the UT. It then seems as if your PC is directly on the UTnet. This means you can access services that are only available via the UTnet.
The services listed below require an IP number from the UT (130.89.x.x). In some cases, you can also log in via your ICT account in order to use the service.
This list is not complete but will be supplemented as much as possible. Your tips are also welcome!
· |
Internal texts from the UT home page(s) |
· |
Access to most UB catalogues and journals databases |
· |
Outgoing mail servers of the UT: smtp.utwente.nl, smtp.misc.utwente.nl, schuimpje.snt.utwente.nl |
· |
Usenet news server news.utwente.nl (log in/authentication via ICT account possible outside UTnet IP range) |
· |
Access to P-drive for students |
· |
Access to P/M-drives (or other network data drives on the UTnet) |
· |
In general: Windows shares on PCs on the UTnet |
The manuals listed below describe how you can configure your VPN interface.
