Purchasing of business software

The University of Twente buys its software for business purposes as much as possible centrally, both for students and staff and for the faculties and services.

We use two purchasing channels:

·

Surf services
See
www.surfdiensten.nl for a list of all software suppliers with whom SURFdiensten has a contract. Here you can also find more details about the products available from each supplier.

·

Direct purchasing from the supplier.
This occurs for software licences that are not available via SURFdiensten.

Central purchasing serves the following goals:

·

Discourages Illegal use of software

·

Stimulates standardisation

·

Reduces costs due to increase of scale

At the bottom of this page is a list of licences and an explanation of the licence structure at the UT. This explanation goes deeper into the question of by whom and under what conditions software may be used on the UT network.

If there are any questions about licences or ordering software, faculties and services can contact the SURFdiensten contact person at ICTS, Gilbert van den Dobbelsteen. We ask you to kindly send your question by e-mail to: G.M.vandendobbelsteen@utwente.nl

Purchasing of software for home use

For individual students and staff it is also possible to acquire software for home use. Via www.surfspot.nl (a shop specially set up by SURFdiensten for this purpose) software licences and CDs can be purchased from suppliers with whom SURFdiensten has a contract. As a student or employee of the UT, you can log on to this shop online and order your software at drastically reduced rates.

Software directly available via the Notebook Service Centre

Some software can also be downloaded directly via the Notebook Service Centre. At the bottom of this page there is a link to the SecureW2 software, which is necessary to use the wireless network (eduroam) at the UT.

Most software is only intended for use within the UT and may not be circulated/loaned out to those who are not students or staff of the UT!
