Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

INTRODUCTION

This manual describes how a network printer can be added on a Mac running OS X 10.6.

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

·

Before using this manual, a personal domain account will be required. This is the same account you use to access your e-mail.

·

This manual is written for Mac OS X; Windows 7, Windows XP or Vista have separate manuals available.

·

When working your way through the manual, you will frequently need to carry out certain actions. A specific style of writing is used for these instructions: references to text and buttons on screens are printed in italics, data that you have to enter yourself is printed in bold.

DOWNLOAD DRIVERS

Step 1: Download and install the required drivers for the printer.

·

In this case, we will need the drivers for the Xerox Workcenter 7345. In the case of Xerox printers, it is best to select the global printer drivers.

·

Follow the instructions of the installer, but do not add a printer yet.

ADD PRINTER

Step 2: Open Print and Fax in System Preferences

·

Click on the plus-button on the bottom of the list of printers

·

Ctrl-click, or right-click, on the area left of the search box in the toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar.

·

Drag the Advanced tool onto the toolbar, and click Done.

·

Click Advanced.

·

At Type, choose the Windows option.

·

At URL, enter the URL for the desired printer. In this case, the URL is: smb://win205.ad.utwente.nl/printer708.

·

Name and Location can be filled in as you please.

·

At Print Using, choose Select Printer Software.

·

Select the printer you wish to install, and click OK.

·

Click Add.

·

Installable Options can be left as-is. Click Continue.

·

Select the printer and click Open Print Queue

·

Go to Printer > Print Test Page.

·

Because you have not logged in yet, the print job will be put On Hold.

·

Click Resume

·

Log in using your domain login-name; this usually consists of AD\LastnameFirstinitial.

·

Enable the Remember this password in my keychain option.

·

The testprint should roll out of the printer at this point, indicating the configuration has been completed.
