EU nationals

Persons from countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area are obliged to register with the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) if their stay in the Netherlands is for longer than 3 months. Before you can register with the IND, you have to register as an inhabitant with the municipal personal records database (GBA) of the municipality in which you take up residence. The countries belonging to the European Union and the European Economic Area are:

Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, the Republic of Ireland, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. NB: Nationals of Switzerland are also considered EU/EEA nationals.

Beware!

Persons of Romanian and Bulgarian nationality have to submit an application for assessment of legal stay to the municipality in which they take up residence. If labour at the University of Twente is involved, a work permit (for non-EU nationals) for a period of two years is also required.
