Loss of pension rights
If you change jobs, possibly your pension insurer will change as well. You will be faced with the differences that exist between the pension schemes. The risk of loss of pension (pension shortfall) is not imaginary. Any increases in your salary cannot be included in your pension from your previous job (break in career) and general developments of the salaries in your new job will not be followed. Your pension will often be lower than if you receive the pension from one pension fund. However, you can limit this loss via a transfer of accrued benefits. In this situation, your new pension insurer will take over the previously accrued pension rights, as a result of which you accrue pension with one pension fund.
Transfer of pension rights
If after your resignation or dismissal at the University of Twente you have a new job, your new employer will inform you on the possibilities to transfer your accrued pension rights to any other pension insurer.
Taking over pension rights
The following conditions must be met in order for the ABP (Civil Service Pension Fund) to take over your pension rights:
· |
you fall under the ABP; |
· |
and you make a request for a transfer of pension rights within six months after you become a public servant with the ABP after employment with a private enterprise. |
Together with the confirmation of your employment you received a brochure about this matter. You are to address your application to the ABP directly.
Commutation of pension rights
Is only possible if on the commencement date of the pension the accrued pension rights are lower than the commutation limit. The commutation limit is determined annually and over 2008 amounts to €406.44.
