Extraordinary leave
Apart from the cases mentioned above, there may be other situations in which in the opinion of the administrator of your faculty or service department, your absence during a short or a longer period is justified. General criteria cannot be given for this. Each request will be assessed on its own merits, whereby it is also considered whether the leave requested harms the interest of the faculty or service department where you work. A request for extraordinary leave for a short or a longer period is to be submitted to the faculty or service department where you are employed.
Extraordinary leave during a longer period mostly involves a leave for the staff member’s own account. The consequence of this is that you do not receive salary. Moreover, the University of Twente may oblige you to pay (part of) the pension premium. As a result, your pension entitlements and your pension accrual remain in force over the period of leave.
