Maternity leave

If you are pregnant, before the delivery you are entitled to the first period of maternity leave and after the delivery, to the second period of maternity leave. The first period is six weeks and the second period ten weeks. You can decide yourself when to start the first period, as long as this starts at least four weeks before the probable date of delivery. If the delivery takes place before this date, the total of both periods of maternity leave is at any rate 16 weeks. If the delivery takes place after this date, the total period of maternity leave can exceed 16 weeks.

In order to qualify for the leave, you are to hand in a statement of the attending physician or midwife with the probable date of delivery to your faculty or service department. Besides, to determine the total duration you are to indicate when you wish to start your maternity leave.
