Vacation leave

In case of full-time employment you are entitled to 232 hours of holiday leave annually. On top of this, from the age of 40 years, you are entitled to extra hours of holiday leave. If you work part-time, you will of course be entitled to hours of leave pro rata the number of hours you work.

If you commence employment in the course of a calendar year, you are entitled to a pro rata number of hours holiday leave. A proportionate adjustment also takes place at the moment the number of hours of your employment alters.

If you are ill for a longer period (absent for more than 50% of the number of working hours over an uninterrupted period of 26 weeks), you only build up holiday leave over the period you (possibly) still work.

Taking up holiday leave

If you wish to take up leave, you must apply for this via the “webapplicatie Verlof” (web application leave). Your superior or the secretariat of your faculty or service department can assess, approve or reject your request for leave. Only if the interest of the unit necessitates this, your faculty or service department may decide that you cannot take up your holiday leave at the moment of your choice.

If you are (partially) ill, and wish to take up holiday leave, you only need to take up leave for the number of hours of the working day on which you still work besides your illness.

Exceeding holiday leave

In case of a full-time employment you may transfer up to 120 hours of holiday leave to the next calendar year. If you work part-time, there is a maximum pro rata the extent of your employment. If more hours of holiday leave still remain at the end of any calendar year, these will lapse.

Illness during holiday leave

If you fall ill during your holiday, you can reclaim the number of hours taken up. For this it is necessary that in case of a stay:

·

in the Netherlands, you report sick to the University of Twente on the day you fall ill, stating your place of stay;

·

abroad, if possible you report sick in the same way as if you were on holiday in the Netherlands. You must at any rate be able to submit a doctor’s statement.

Your faculty or service department will decide on any return of hours of leave.

Resignation, dismissal and holiday leave

If you resign while still entitled to holiday leave, these hours will be paid out. In case of full-time employment, the maximum number of hours paid out has been set at 120. Part-timers are subject to a maximum in proportion to the extent of the employment on the date of resignation.
