Educational leave

As a staff member of the University of Twente you are entitled to paid educational leave for following training programmes/courses, acquiring specialist knowledge, exchanging knowledge or simply for ‘refreshing’ or ‘recharging the battery’. A precondition is that you have been employed by the University of Twente for at least five years and at the moment of the leave have a permanent employment. You are to apply for the leave no later than three months in advance to your faculty or service department.

The purpose of the educational leave is to have a positive effect on your functioning within the University of Twente, or to improve your career perspectives. At any rate, you are to drawn up an educational plan for the period of leave together with your faculty or service department.

The leave can be granted for a maximum period of three consecutive months. It is possible in consultation with your unit to take up the leave for a certain part of the ordinary working time, so that the leave is enjoyed over a longer period of time.

During the leave period you will keep your full salary. By way of compensation for training costs, travelling and accommodation costs and costs of equipment made in the Netherlands, you will receive up to a maximum of € 2,269. If most of the leave is taken up abroad, this amount can be increased up to a maximum of € 4,538. In special cases you may be required to contribute to the costs yourself.
