English for lectures

 

For whom?

This course is for academic staff whose current level of English is approximately CEF C1-C2. It is intended for lecturers, PhDs, and postdocs who are teaching in English or who will be doing so in the future.

Wednesday 25 April, 9, 16, 23, 30 May, 6, 13, 20 June 2012, from 13.30-16.00.

Group size

Minimum 6 and maximum 8 participants.

Trainer

A qualified English language teacher from TCP Language Centre.

Course fee

This course is free of charge for PhD-students and Postdocs who are working at UT. Expenses will however be charged In case of not temporal cancellation.

Result

In this course you will be provided with opportunities to develop and increase your teaching skills in English. You will learn how to deal flexibly and confidently with interactive situations in English. English for Lectures focuses primarily on the language skills necessary for delivering a lecture in English with confidence but the course also provides you with the basic didactic principles of giving a lecture.

Duration and time

investment

English for Lectures consists of eight classes. The lessons include a variety of practical language learning activities, such as exercises, discussions, mini-lectures, and role plays. Didactic processes and strategies will also receive attention. Homework each week consists of preparing the activities mentioned above.

Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course is held over eight consecutive weeks, with one session per week, each session lasting two and a half hours. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours each week. Study load is equivalent to approximately 1,0 ECTS.

Admission criteria

You are required to use the digital test Dialang as part of the assessment process for language proficiency. The results are based on the levels from the Common European Framework (CEF).
