Mobility UT staff members
We live in a very dynamic society, characterised by constant change. As an organisation we must respond to this. This requires something from all of us. As a staff member you need to be flexible to adjust to these constant changes. The power to adjust to changes, to gain new work experiences and learning to work in new collaborative projects is referred to as labour mobility. This may concern a job switch, a new position, profession, employer, or even a different region.
The UT will assist in this and offer various opportunities. We find it important that staff members have a broad development and can be widely employed, thus being free to move to other jobs within and outside of the organisation. An example is a staff member who is moved from a faculty to another job with the central government. Excellent cooperation and coordination are important in this context. For in a joint effort we will achieve better solutions and better results!
In practice we make a distinction between internal mobility and external mobility. Internal mobility means mobilising UT staff members to pick up other, new tasks, thus making them employable in a wider context. External mobility is the outflow of staff members to other organisations or branches/sectors. There are various practical instruments for encouraging mobility:
· |
job rotation (to a comparable job within another unit) |
· |
career counselling (to a next step in one’s career) |
· |
secondments (to another position or employer) |
· |
deputising (of a temporarily vacancy) |
· |
assessments (for a more focused picture of one’s own talent) |
In order to effect mobility, it is important to align the wishes and needs of the individual staff member and those of the organisation to one another. This can be done among other things through consultation with the superior, for example via annual interviews. The starting point is that each staff member is responsible for his or her own career and mobility. The UT can and wishes to support its staff members and superiors in these processes.
