Expertise

Since February 2010 Susanne works as a researcher at the University of Twente, at the e-Health group. She studied communication science at the University of Twente, she specialized in health communications. She completed her graduation thesis in October 2007, within the Euregio MRSA-net project Twente / Münsterland. She analyzed emotional and information needs of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)-carriers in the home situation, in order to optimize patient education.

Susanne’s expertises lie in these areas:

Ehealth – Improving health through the use of information and communication technology (ICT)

Participatory design - Designing interventions and applications with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, in various stages of the design, to ensure a workable technology that meets the needs of the stakeholders.

Research projects

Susanne is involved in the teledermatology project “Early diagnosis of skin wounds and early identification and prevention of diabetic foot wounds”, commissioned by DiaDerma BV (2009-2011). The aim of this project is to develop a new portable teledermatology monitoring system which will optimize the treat of chronic skin wounds. The new technology will also function as a self-care tool for diabetic patients.

A participatory design process and a business modeling approach are used in order to develop the technology. By involving all relevant stakeholders from the wound care infrastructure, through all phases of the design process (form design to implementation and evaluation), a usable and feasible technology will be developed. All stakeholders can appoint their needs and determine their values to use the new technology in the wound care. Consequently, a list of requirements will be made. Subsequently, these demands of the stakeholders will be translated into technical requirements for the development of technology. Susanne performs this research in collaboration with Elly Kloeze.
