Expertise
In 2007, Rilana Prenger graduated from Psychology within the theme ‘Safety and Health’ at the University of Twente. Her master thesis was about reduced smoking among 14 – 16 years old adolescents in lower secondary professional education. Rilana started her PhD project in September 2007 at the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, department of Psychology & Communication of Health & Risk (PCHR).
Research projects
‘Assessing outcomes and cost-effectiveness of behavioural health interventions’
Cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs) of behavioural health interventions traditionally use a dichotomous outcome criterion (‘success’ or ‘failure’). In reality, though, behavioural change is a complex process in which several steps towards success are taken. Any progress without accomplishing full behavioural change may also be considered as a beneficial outcome of the intervention. Not accounting for these delayed effects may lead to underestimation of the effectiveness of behavioural interventions. As extending the follow-up period is often impeded by practical and financial limitations, intermediate outcomes of behavioural change can be modelled into the cost-effectiveness ratio. The aim of the project is to explore how cognitive intermediate outcomes can be modelled into a cost-effectiveness model of a behavioural intervention to incorporate future behavioural change. Different theories of behavioural change and modelling techniques will be applied to examine this. The project is supervised by dr. Marcel Pieterse and dr. Annemarie Braakman-Jansen. Prof. dr. Erwin Seydel will be promotor in this project.
