Expertise

In july 2009 Maarten completed the master business administration at the University of Twente with innovation management as specialization. His graduation thesis introduced a business model for a Personal Health Record in the context of the Dutch healthcare market. This research was commissioned by Pink Roccade Healthcare.

Prior to these studies in Twente, Maarten studied business information technology at Windesheim in Zwolle.

Maarten currently specializes in following subjects:

eHealth – An emerging field in the intersection of medical informatics, public health and business, referring to health services and information delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies.

Business Modelling – A business approach that helps assessing and evaluating the value creation around an intervention that involves multiple stakeholders to collaborate and co-create a successful and sustainable implementation.

Research projects

As per February 2010 Maarten is a PhD student working for the Eursafety Health Net project This Dutch-German collaboration aims to decrease cross-border health care associated infections in care settings and thereby helps to increase patient safety. Health care institutions in border regions have to cooperate and adapt their infection control measures due to increased migration of patients and health care workers and differences in prevalence and infection control measures. We are developing a communication platform to enable information sharing and cooperation to control health care associated infections. Maarten focuses on the implementation of this platform by using business modelling. Business modelling assesses and evaluates the value creation around an eHealth intervention with all stakeholders that need to be involved. By collaboration and co-creation of a business model, the success and sustainability of the implementation of the eHealth intervention can be improved.
