Willem Pieterson graduated from the University of Twente in April 2004. His graduation project was about individuals’ needs for electronic services. He worked as a researcher for the department of Communication Studies from June 2004 to April 2005 on the field of e-Government, which is his main field of expertise. Research Projects
The PhD project concerns media behavior and is subsidized by the Dutch Tax Administration and the University of Twente.
What channels do individuals choose to communicate with organizations, and why do people choose those channels? Answers to those questions may enable organizations to optimize their service provision and communication strategy.
The research tries to gain insight in individual motives that underlie the choice of communication channels. The research has a longitudinal character to monitor changes in usage patterns over time. The research is based on theoretical insights from media choice and usage theories like the ‘media richness theory’ and the ‘social influence model’.
The PhD project is part of the research program “ICT en Overheidsorganisaties” (ICT and Governmental Organizations). The program is a co production of the University of Twente and the Dutch Tax Administration. Main goal of the program is to find out what the factors are that hinder or contribute to the success of electronic service provision by Governments.
