Short bio

Lars Bollen studied Physics and Computer Science for Higher Education at the University Duisburg-Essen in Germany. He graduated (“Staatsexamen”, MSc. equivalent) in 2002 about the integration of visual modeling languages into the learning environment Cool Modes. After graduation, he joined the Collide research group, lead by Prof. Dr. Hoppe, in the Department of Computational and Cognitive Sciences at the University Duisburg-Essen.

Lars Bollen worked on projects like eCampus, COLDEX, SkyWatch, Argunaut and participated in various activities within the NoE – Kaleidoscope.

In 2009, he finished his PhD at the University Duisburg-Essen on the topic “Activity Structuring and Activity Monitoring in Heterogeneous Learning Scenarios with Mobile Devices”.

In 2008, Lars Bollen joined the Department of Instructional Technology and is currently working on the 7^th framework project SCY and on the TWID project (“Thinking with Inaccurate Drawings”).

Research interests

Model-based learning, modeling & sketching, visual modeling languages and environments, mobile devices and pen-based devices in learning scenarios, (inter)action analysis.
