Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Ing. Willem Verwey

Bio- and neuropsychology touches on issues as the biological basis of alcoholism, hyperactivity and the mechanisms by which anti-depressants do their job in the human body. More philosophical questions like the the mind-body problem also play a role in this field. Knowledge of the biological basis of human behavior is indispensable to all social scientists. Human behavior is influenced by processes that taken place in the body and the brain and psychologists are moving more and more towards interdisciplinary professions in which knowledge about these processes and the scientific methods by which this knowledge is gathered play an important role. Neuropsychology concerns the psychological effects of brain injury. In this fast growing field, insights from biopsychology, cognitive psychology and clinical psychology come together.
