QUA ART QUA SCIENCE
September 2004 saw the start of Qua Art - Qua Science, a project in which the Foundation Faculty Club of Twente University collaborates with Gallery Beeld & Aambeeld, Enschede.
The objective of this collaboration is the annual organization of a number of projects in order to explore the interface between art and science. The mutual inspiration and the way in which the two disciplines may fructify each other play a large part in this.
Today, four years later, 13 exhibitions or rather projects have been organized which are presented in this compilation. During this period the interaction between art and science has taken place in three areas: structures, thé ratio, thé observation.
During the meetings that were held, themes in the field of Fibonacci (the golden section), water, taste, architecture, mathematical principles, etc. were discussed. Within each of these themes artists were asked to exhibit their work and scientists were asked to put all this into a wider perspective, based on their fields of knowledge. Every subject was accompanied by a beautifully laid-out booklet. By now, our audience has become a close group of interested individuals.
This series has come about through the efforts of many. Apart from the input of participating and enthusiastic artists and scientists, the result of which is to be found in this edition, there were many active and inspired participants in the intervening meetings. And naturally, of the utmost importance were the members of the working party with their unremitting attention and organizational talents: the vital support.
Exhibitions and lectures were mainly held in the Faculty Club of Twente University; we, the organizers, have met with generous support from the Foundation Faculty Club and are grateful to former manager Ineke Baas and the always friendly personnel. Gallery Beeld & Aambeeld lent its disinterested support and expertise in the matter of the arts. The publication of the booklets was generously sponsored by Wegener Speciale Uitgaven, part of Wegener Huis-aan-Huis Media.
Of course, this book does not mean the end of Qua Art – Qua Science, on the contrary. Artists and scientists have by now become aware of our activities, some new and enthusiastic members have joined the working party and new plans have been developed.
At the same time we are working hard on intensifying our contacts with the public. In short, Qua Art – Qua Science is and remains an organization very much alive and inspirational.
