Title: XQuery optimization in relational database systems

Abstract: In this presentation I will talk about XQuery optimization in the context of relational database systems. I will first describe the state of art for some optimization techniques. I will thereafter list some of the unresolved problems in XQuery optimization and finally I will describe the motivation and the work we are currently doing to develop equivalence rules for algebraically rewriting XPath expressions.
