Open positions at the ASNA chair

Within the Architecture and Services of Network Application (ASNA) group there are the following open positions. The ASNA group has around 25 members, approximately half of them being PhD students. Research within ASNA focuses on the design, implementation and management of services provided by distributed systems, especially at the application and middleware level. Important research topics are context-aware and self-adaptive services, semantic service interoperability, service discovery and composition, service-oriented and model-driven development. Important application areas are healthcare, education, and home networking.

Postdoc position: ICT support for mobile health applications

The ASNA group is interested in innovative ICT solutions that can be applied in the health domain, particularly to support patients’ and health professionals’ mobility, to increase patients’ quality of life and to reduce healthcare costs. The group has developed and validated its own mobile health service platform in various projects, including MobiHealth (IST-2001-36006), HealthService 24 (eTEN-517352) and AWARENESS (BSIK 03025). The postdoc will be responsible to further the development of the mobile platform, especially in the context of national and international research and validation projects. S/he will actively explore new opportunities for improving, extending and applying the platform, coordinate and participate in the necessary implementation efforts, and supervise PhD students who use the platform as a vehicle in their research.

PhD position: Model-driven design of context-aware mobile services (CLOSED)

Technological developments in communications, hardware and software have enabled the development of applications that can adapt transparently to changes in the capabilities of the communication infrastructure, to whatever the user is doing, and to his personal preferences and needs. These applications will offer so called ubiquitous, mobile, context-aware, personalised services to their end users. In order to realise this, advanced methods and tools are required to facilitate the development and provisioning of new services. These tools should shield the developers from the heterogeneous nature of the communication infrastructure and the diversity in devices through which their services will be provided. This PhD project concerns the application of Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) principles and technologies to the design of context-aware mobile services. This PhD project will be embedded in the Freeband A-MUSE project (http://a-muse.freeband.nl/).

PhD position: Service creation and execution platform for intelligent and personalized mobile services (CLOSED)

This PhD project addresses the challenge of designing, developing and putting into operation efficient and innovative mobile Service creation/execution Platforms for converged networks beyond 3G. This project aims at investigating developing, prototyping and evaluating an extendable overlay architecture and framework for rapid creation and deployment of intelligent and personalised Mobile Communication and Content & Information Services. This platform will support multiple heterogeneous execution platforms allowing for new, innovative services to be spread across different operator domains and over different countries. This PhD project will be embedded in the European project SPICE (6th Framework Programme, IST Integrated Project, http://www.ist-spice.org/).
