Topic: Financing Innovative Business Development By Bert Reijmerink, Founding Partner & CSO GENALICE
Bert Reijmerink and Hans Karten started GENALICE from their mission and knowledge to effectively deal with large amounts of DNA data, to really help people with cancer. GENALICE specializes in the design and development of innovative software solutions for DNA analysis, correlation and processing of biomedical Big Data. On April 18, GENALICE announced the introduction of the beta version of its first product, GENALICE MAP, in a few weeks.
At the time, the founders hoped their idea would sell itself to an intrinsically motivated financier. As often, the practice proved more stubborn. Obtaining financing took much longer than expected, in fact very much longer. It starts with figuring out and finding the right channels and it does not end once the arrangements have been made. It is also a “multi-stage rocket”. And today, there is greater fragmentation, because risk funding rather seems to revolve around the elimination of risk. In spite of all that, they were successful.
