Anne Dijkstra is sociaal wetenschapper (afgestudeerd aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) en als universitair docent verbonden aan de faculteit Gedragswetenschappen van de Universiteit Twente. Ze is in 2008 gepromoveerd op het proefschrift Of publics and science. How publics engage with biotechnology and genomics. In haar proefschrift onderzocht ze hoe verschillende publieken participeren in biotechnologie en gentechnologie; hoe deze publieken zelf bij deze ontwikkelingen betrokken willen zijn en wat dat betekent voor de communicatie over deze technologieën.

In haar eerdere werk heeft ze als projectleider, wetenschapsvoorlichter en communicatieadviseur ruime praktijkervaring opgedaan met communicatie en voorlichting over (risico’s van) wetenschap en technologie.

Interessegebieden

Haar onderzoek richt zich hoofdzakelijk op communicatieve aspecten bij de relatie tussen wetenschap, technologie en samenleving. Meer specifiek is ze geïnteresseerd in publieke participatie, dialoog, risicocommunicatie, risicoperceptie en science communication bij nieuwe technologieën als nanotechnologie, human enhancement en biotechnologie en genomics. Op dit moment voert ze voor het Rathenau Instituut in Den Haag een literatuurstudie uit waarbij ze de publieke opinie over human enhancement (dit zijn toepassingen gericht op het verbeteren van de mens) inventariseert.

Onderwijs

Anne Dijkstra heeft in 2007 het programma voor Science Communication richting van de recent gestarte masteropleiding Science Education and Communication (SEC) aan de Universiteit Twente mee vormgegeven. De opleiding is voor studenten met een technische bachelor die geïnteresseerd zijn in communicatie over wetenschap en technologie. De afgelopen jaren heeft ze een aantal vakken voor deze opleiding ontwikkeld en gegeven (zoals het vak Science Communication and New Technologies).

Ze is lid van de opleidingscommissie van de Master SEC en lid van het 3 TU-overleg over de masteropleiding SEC.

Lidmaatschap

Anne Dijkstra is lid van de kernredactie van het Jaarboek Kennissamenleving. Een peer-reviewed jaarlijks verschijnend boek over actuele thema’s in de kennissamenleving. Uitgeverij Aksant, Amsterdam. In 2010 is deel 6 verschenen.

Daarnaast is ze lid van het landelijk Science Communication overleg.

Publiekscommunicatie

Als vrijwilliger is Anne Dijkstra medeorganisator van het Science Café Deventer (www.sciencecafedeventer.nl), een publiek podium waar elke tweede woensdag van de maand een bekende of minder bekende spreker vertelt over een wetenschappelijk onderwerp, omlijst met muziek.

Voor kinderen is er in Deventer het Kinder Science Café (www.zabuki.nl), elke tweede woensdag van de maand van 14.00 – 16.00 uur.
